Call 630-672-7526 or email shah@totalmedstaffing.com Position Title: Physical Therapist, Staff Reports To: Director, Physical Therapy Position Summary: The staff Physical Therapist functions under the general supervision of the Director of Physical Therapy. The staff Physical Therapist assumes responsibility and accountability for a designated group of patients and provides physical therapy evaluations, modalities and treatments in accordance with established departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care. The staff Physical Therapist also assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of those patients being treated by Physical Therapist Assistants and may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of that individual. The Physical Therapist accurately assesses patients’ needs; identifies and initiates appropriate physical therapy interventions; provides patient and family teaching; and works cooperatively with other patient team personnel in maintaining standards for professional physical therapy practice and interdisciplinary teamwork. These functions are carried out according to clinic policy in accordance with the mission and vision of the clinic and consistent with the philosophy of the department. The Physical Therapist participates in performance improvement and program development activities. Responsibilities include providing input into the budgetary planning process; contributing to cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department; communicating the employee’s observations and suggestions related to opportunities for improvement; and maintaining positive relations with all customers. Reporting Relationships: The staff Physical Therapist functions under the general supervision of the department director or designee. Licenses/Certifications: Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in the state therapist is practicing. Experience/Skills: One year of experience or equivalent in the care of patients in an orthopaedic setting. Physical and Sensory Demands: Good general health and stress coping ability. Full mobility and ability to participate in vigorous activity. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all constituents (patients, families, peers, and other healthcare team members) as needed for assessment, intervention, and professional development. Possess near vision acuity for accurate reading of equipment and recording on patient charts. Must be physically able to lift, support and move patients. Working Conditions: OSHA Task Category One: There is an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues or a potential for spills or splashes during the performance of the job. Universal precautions must be observed and protective devices worn by the employee when performing those tasks likely to cause exposure. Machines, Tools, Equipment and Work Aids Used: Therapeutic exercise and modality devices including by not limited to: electronic equipment, exercise equipment, hydrotherapy equipment, electrical lifts, ambulation devices, wheelchairs, computer, phone, and dictation equipment. Key Performance Functions Provision of Care/Services: Provides patient care services to patients of all ages including: 1. Performs patient assessment 2. Establishes plan of care 3. Assesses the effectiveness of treatment and modifies treatment to achieve goals 4. Assesses educational needs of the patient, family, caregiver or significant other and provides education to meet those needs 5. Plans for discharge 6. Communicate with patient, family, caregivers, significant other and members of the healthcare team to promote maximum benefit of care Safety: Provides an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors, and staff. Assesses the risks for safety and implements appropriate precautions. Complies with appropriate and approved safety standards. Leadership: Utilizes the appropriate leadership skills in delegating, organizing and educating coworkers and staff. Coordinates and supervises appropriate levels of staff including interns, students and volunteers. Responds to department needs. Participates in and contributes to quality improvement process for the department and institution. Conservation of Resources: Demonstrates an understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency. Other Duties as Assigned: Performs other duties as assigned to support the overall effectiveness of the department. |
