Second Therapist Assists

Our in-patient acute care rehab department is looking to find a way to capture reimbursement for PT/OT treatments utilizing a second therapist (usually a PTA/COTA) to assist. We occasionally will need a second person to provide physical assistance in cases where one therapist is not sufficient to adequately assist the patient. We have not been billing for the second person and have considered it non-productive time, but are interested in finding out what other facilities do in this situation.

You cannot double bill for the same period of time. I,ve worked for contract companies that have tried to pressure us to do this. |
